Turtle Species in Malaysia

There are 20 species of tortoises and freshwater turtles in Malaysia and unfortunately almost all are in danger of extinction.

At Sipadan, you will often see Green Turtles. On rare occasions, you might bump into the Hawksbill Turtle. These gentle giant creatures are so clumsy on land but yet so graceful under water.

Nudibranch

One of my favourite things to see are nudibranchs. While diving around Mabul Island and Kapalai Island, it is almost guaranteed that you will see these little creatures. But what is interesting is that you will almost always see a different species everytime you come across one in each of your dives.

Bumphead Parrotfish

The bumphead parrotfish can sometimes be seen travelling in small groups around Sipadan Island. I guess the common name of this fish describes it very well.

Barracuda - Tiger of the Sea

These mean looking fish with a body that resembles a torpedo and a protruding lower jaw with jutting razor sharp teeth can be intimidating. After all, they have evolved over millions of years to be such efficient hunters. They are known for their seemingly unsatiable appetite, and boy do they move fast!
