Sipadan Map on Google Earth
Recently, well OK, maybe not that recently, but it happened sometime in 2007, Google Earth started to show clear images of Sipadan Island. Previously it was just a blur blob and photographers who geo-tag their images had to blindly guess where it is. It explains why if you turn on the Panoramio layer in Google Earth, Sipadan Island seems to be in so many places.
If you have Google Earth installed, here’s some interesting locations around the area:
Sipadan Island: 4 06′ 54″N 118 37′42.49″E. You’ll notice that the sea around the island is really dark. That’s because you are staring at 600m deep of water. It’s an experience you don’t forget easily.
North of Sipadan Island is Mabul Island, where most of the resorts are located: 4 14′46.43″N 118 37′50.19″E.
Towards the East of Mabul Island is Kapalai Island: 4 13′ 20.68″N 118 41′05.85″E
